Definition of Impact
Research Councils UK (RCUK) defines impact as
"The demonstrable contribution the excellent research makes to society and the economy by fostering global economic performance, and specifically the economic competitiveness of the UK increasing the effectiveness of public services and policy enhancing quality of life, health and creative output."
According the the Research Excellence Framework impact is
'an effect on, change or benefit to the economy, society, culture, public policy or services, health, the environment or quality of life, beyond academia'
